Vineland Man Convicted For Deadly 2020 Shooting Of Bridgeton Man In Millville: Prosecutors

A Vineland man was found guilty of killing a Bridgeton man who died more than a year after he was shot, authorities said.

Marese Washington Jr., 31, was convicted on Wednesday, Oct. 23, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said in a news release. A jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and second-degree aggravated assault.

State police responded to a car crash report at milepost 28.2 on Route 55 North in Millville on July 24, 2020. Troopers saw 26-year-old Kesean Bey shot in the head in the driver's seat of his vehicle.

Investigators used surveillance video, ballistic evidence, and cellphone location data to arrest Washington in August 2020. Bey died from his injuries on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, and Washington was indicted for murder, along with other charges.

Washington was facing between 30 years and life in prison. He would have to serve 30 years before being eligible for parole.

Sentencing was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6.
